You should always speak with your doctor before you start, stop, or change any prescribed part of your care plan or treatment. WebMD understands that reading individual, real-life experiences can be a helpful resource, but it is never a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment from a qualified health care provider. Medications are used in multiple sclerosis MS to modify the disease course, treat relapses — also called attacks or exacerbations — and manage symptoms. Along with the other essential components of comprehensive MS care, these medications help people manage their MS and enhance their comfort and quality of life. No known abuse potential. As an opioid antagonist, naltrexone is used as a treatment for substance abuse. LDN does not exert any euphoric or reinforcing effects, and we have observed no cases of LDN misuse or abuse. Furthermore, we have not seen the development of dependence and tolerance with the medication.

I was seeing a rheumatologist who did every test possible from lupus to MS and rare diseases in between. No firm diagnosis. At one point, my hair was falling out and I was feeling very tired and brain-fogged so the rheumatologist prescribed plaquenil which is a drug used in malaria, for rheumatoid arthritis and lupus. Took Plaquenil for years-no results. Changed neuros and even the Ms neuro thought I had Sjogren's due to history - positive Schrimer test, swollen and infected parotid glands, joint pain, etc. Finally Ms neuro ordered a lip biopsy which confirmed once and for all that I did NOT have SS but I had MS. I only have 2 classic MS lesions on MRI. Hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil, chloroquine Aralen, and quinacrine Atabrine are medications that were originally used to prevent or treat malaria. However, during World War II it was also found that these medications were effective in treating the symptoms of lupus.
