  7. Saturday was a week since I stopped taking Plaquenil, aka Hydroxychloroquine, per my doctor's instructions, and I think I am going through some form of withdrawal. I took the drug as a treatment for sarcoidosis and one of the side effects is a reduction in white blood cells, which is what has happened to me.

Two days now I've taken the Pepcid, then an hour later took the Plaquenil and it's working great. I didn't even eat this morning and didn't have a problem. BTW I talked to two pharmacists and both said that it's okay to take with the plaquenil. Incidentally, I asked him why plaquenil causes hair loss, and he said no one knows why. It's just one of those drugs known to have that side effect. Nothing to really help it he said, other than taking folic acid, b12 and biotin. I asked him about methotrexate, and he said he was on it for years for his RA and never had any major side effects. Plaquenil hydroxychloroquine belongs to a group of medicines called quinolines. Plaquenil is used to treat or prevent malaria, a disease caused by parasites that enter the body through the bite of a mosquito. Malaria is common in areas such as Africa, South America, and Southern Asia.
